We ran the length of the UK for Dementia
Tim and Sam Davis have successfully, and virtually, run the entire length of the United Kingdom, from Land's End all the way to John O' Groats. This is a distance of 1,083.8 miles in total.
We started the challenge on Wednesday 27 January 2021 on a cold a frosty Winter's day. The plan was to run four or five times a week, with the expectation of completing before the end of October. But we managed to smash our own target and completed the whole distance one and two months earlier than we planned. Our medals (they are fantastic) and challenge t-shirts have arrived.
We decided to attempt this challenge to raise money for Alzheimer's Research and Dementia UK. It was our way of doing something to support our family, and all those that are affected by Dementia or Alzheimer's.
We set ourselves a target of raising £5,000. We even smashed that. We raised a total of £5,436.46.
This is made up of £5,286.46 (£5,864.31 with gift aid) via Virgin Money Giving, with another £150 raised offline.
As a family, we have seen the devastation that Alzheimers can bring to both it's victims and the family and friends around them. Susan, our sister, sister-in-law and auntie of Judy, Tim and Sam has been suffering with an very aggressive form of Alzheimers for the last few years now. Tim and Sam decided they would take on this challenge to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Research and Dementia UK. These two fantastic charities actively research the causes of Alzheimer's and Dementia, and support the familiy and frieds of the people that it afflicts.
